In development for 18 months, Play Manager 4.0 is a significant extension to
Play Manager technology. Play Manager is best known for its industry-leading
play animation, and substantial improvements have been made in
this area. But throughout development, we consulted
extensively with coaches in all sports to discover exactly what coaches
wanted and needed to create and manage exceptional playbooks. Now
Play Manager’s drawing and printing capabilities will match its hallmark
animation. In fact, the new tools will rival those of any
drawing program in any market. Version 4.0 has a new modern look and a very long list of powerful new features. Click links below for detailed feature lists.
Selection of this tool allows
creation of random direction lines (in your choice of
line pattern).
A smoothing algorithm will be applied to the line in real time
ensuring the finished product has a perfectly
machined quality.
See Freehand E-Chalk Object Control Palette.
Selection of this tool
allows creation of perfectly straight lines (in your choice of line pattern).
See Straight Line E-Chalk Object Control Palette. Note: When in
freehand mode, the same effect may be achieved by
holding down the Control key while drawing the
line.
Selection of this tool
allows creation of perfectly rendered circles and
ellipses. The circles/ellipses can take on various
looks according to the selected fill mode. For
example, Transparent and Inverted creates a powerful
spotlight effect on the area inside the
circle/ellipse.
See Shape E-Chalk Object Control Palette.
Selection of this tool
allows creation of perfectly rendered squares and
rectangles. The squares/rectangles can take on
various looks according to the selected fill mode.
For example, Transparent and Inverted creates a
powerful spotlight effect on the area inside the
square/rectangle.
See Shape E-Chalk Object Control Palette.
Selection of this tool
allows creation of E-Chalk Text Objects. The font
color, font style, font size and other attributes
may be selected before the E-Chalk Text Object is
created. All of these attributes may be changed
after the text object has been created. As well, the
text itself may be edited after it has been created.
See Text E-Chalk Object Control Palette
E-Chalk Objects (lines and
shapes) may now be selected for the purposes of
cutting (or copying) and pasting. More than one
object may be selected at a time (multi-select) by
holding down the Shift key or "lasso-selecting".
See Example
Straight line, Shape
(ellipses and rectangles) and Text E-Chalk objects
may now be dynamically re-sized. All E-Chalk objects
may be moved with a simple drag and drop.
Before creating an E-Chalk
line (straight or freehand), the "pattern" may be
selected from among several patterns. An E-Chalk
line's pattern can easily be changed after it has
been created.
See Available Patterns
Before creating an E-Chalk
Object (lines and shapes), the "line thickness" may
be selected from among six choices. An E-Chalk
Object's line thickness can easily be changed after
it has been created.
See Available Line Weights
Before creating an E-Chalk
line (straight or freehand), an automated line
endings may be selected from among the following
choices. An E-Chalk line's line ending may easily be
changed after it has been created. The endings can
be applied to the start of the line and/or the end
of the line.
See Available Line Endings
Before creating an E-Chalk
Object (lines and shapes), the line color may be
selected from among all standard Windows colors. An
E-Chalk Object's line color can easily be changed
after it has been created.
See Available Colors
Before creating an E-Chalk
Object shape (ellipse or rectangle) the fill color
may be selected from among all standard Windows
colors. An E-Chalk Object shape's fill color mode
can easily be changed after it has been created.See

Before creating an E-Chalk
Object shape (ellipse or rectangle) the fill color
mode may be selected from among several choices. An
E-Chalk Object shape's fill color mode can easily be
changed after it has been created. Interesting
effects may be created. For example, with the
"Transparent & Inverted" mode, a spotlight effect is
created for a certain area of the playing surface.

When in E-Chalk mode, the Play
Manager menu system now becomes E-Chalk-centric,
providing tools which support the direct management
of E-Chalk objects.

Play Manager 4.0 provides
literally hundreds of different layouts to print
your playbooks, so there will surely be one that
fits your needs. Your printed playbooks will possess
a professional quality and will be suitable for
publication.
See Print Dialog.
When the Expand to Fit
switch is set on in the Print Dialog, the playing
surface image will expand to occupy the entire
printed page. This will make great playcards which
can be read from a distance of several feet.
When printing an entire
playbook, a switch called Page Break Between Plays
becomes available. When this switch is turned on, a
new page is started for each new play in the
playbook. When this switch is NOT turned on, a new
play will start on the current page, if space
permits.
Printing routines will now
respect carriage returns in play notes and E-Chalk
notes. In this way, the text can be organized in
sections for clarity. For example, this is useful
for creating bulleted player assignments.
Plays may now be mirrored
left to right and/or top to bottom, allowing coaches
to easily show how a play will look from a different
perspective, or create a duplicate play that is the
mirror image. This feature is flexible in that all
or part of a play may be mirrored. Coaches may
select only certain players to mirror.
See Example
E-Chalk images may be
exported with the push of a button to web-ready JPEG
files. Images may be exported in color or
black&white mode. This feature provides coaches with
a turn-key method of creating play images and
thumbnails for team websites, documents, articles
and other 3rd party printed materials.
Unlike Play Manager 3.0,
with the floating Object Browser, Play Manager 4.0
has a sleek, new all-in-one interface, allowing for
quicker navigation and control of playbooks.
QuickChalk allows coaches to
pause a play and "telestrate" directly on the screen
(John Madden-style). QuickChalk will now be
available in multiple colors and patterns.
All playbooks created with
Play Manager 3.0 are fully compatible with Play
Manager 4.0. Once a Play Manager 3.0 playbook is
opened with Play Manager 4.0, it may be thoroughly
enhanced using new features available in Play
Manager 4.0.
Dragging an actor on the
Play Surface will create animation for this actor.
To change the start location for an actor, the
Control key must be held down while the actor is
dragged, an action many early users forget about.
With Play Manager 4.0, a warning message has been
added to protect coaches against inadvertently
creating animation.
Actors may be multi-selected
and then perfectly aligned with each other, without
having to tediously move one actor at a time. This
is useful in many situations. For example in
football, for aligning your offensive line. See Example
Actors may be multi-selected
and then perfectly distributed to create the same
amount of space between each actor. This is useful
in many situations. For example, use this when
creating a lineup of players in a drill.
See Example
When this switch is
activated, a play will pause at each E-Chalk
instance, and then display the E-Chalk markings and
E-Chalk notes. This feature provides a way to focus
attention to the most important aspects of a play or
drill.
This fixes a long-standing
problem with Play Manager 3.0, in which Play Manager
could not work with read-only files. This meant that
playbooks on CD could not be opened until they were
copied to disk and their read-only flag turned off.
This problem has been fixed. Playbooks may now be
opened directly from CD.
To change an actor's image,
simply double click on the actor, and the Select
Image dialog will be displayed. Previously, this
could only be done through the Actor Tab on the
Object Browser.
Play Manager ships with
hundreds of pre-built plays and drills. With Play
Manager 4.0, this content quality has been vastly
improved using the powerful new Play Manager 4.0
features. As well, there is much more content
available for Play Manager users.
The Add Actor command now
lists all Actor Types. With Play Manager 3.0,
certain actor types (e.g. extra soccer nets, extra
basketball hoops, football blocking dummies) could
only be added by adding a different actor type and
then changing the actor's image. Now all Actor Types
can be added with one command.
When a pose is appended for
a given actor, all other actors will momentarily
jump to their position as determined by the time of
the End Record Marker. However, for inserting poses,
this behavior was not intuitive or helpful and the
problem has been addressed in Play Manager 4.0. This
is a simple but very important adjustment to the
animation editor.
